We are thrilled to announce that the National Seminar of #GirlsinICT Day in Timor-Leste 2023 was co-organized by the Autoridade Nacional De Comunicações (ANC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on 11 August 2023. This full-day event was held at Timor Plaza, Dili, Timor-Leste.
H. E. Secretary of State for Equality, Charmain of ANC and the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Timor Leste delivered their remarks at the event. Additionally, the ITU was invited to deliver a keynote speech.
Furthermore, the event received support from various partners, including the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Timorese JICA Alumni Association, the National University of East Timor (UNTL), UN Women, UNICEF and many others. Approximately 70 female secondary school students from all around Timor-Leste participated, along with female ICT leaders who shared their own experience in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The primary objective of this event was to encourage and empower girls and young women to explore and pursue careers in the ICT field. It provided valuable opportunities for attendees to enhance their digital skills, interact with female role models and mentors in the ICT sector, and explore diverse career paths in STEM.
