As part of Girls in ICT Day Pakistan programme, the digital skills training programme will be conducted on 25 September 2021 after the Plenary and Launching of the Girls in ICT Day Pakistan. The key stakeholders will include students, girls in tech and youths in Pakistan.

The first session will feature a hands-on mobile app development Tech4Girls workshop within the framework of the EQUALS Global Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age and it will be supported by GSMA, W4, ITU,  CodeGirls and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Pakistan. The EQUALS Tech4Girls workshop series aim to make younger females feel welcome and empowered in the tech and mobile industries by overcoming gender barriers in relation to access and use of digital technologies. Within this context, EQUALS Tech4Girls Mobile Apps workshops enable a critical mass of women to leverage technology and to address personal and local challenges. The Initiative’s comprehensive training also involves boosting self-confidence and creativity, breaking stereotypes and gender norms and enjoying the act of learning.  Building mobile apps gives girls and young women a glimpse of the booming app industry and lets them experience creating something with technology. The goal of this workshop is to teach girls and young women a new set of digital skills that help them shift from just consuming information to becoming digital creators. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating mobile applications through the usage of Thunkable. The project of the mobile application is to create an electronic book that represents women in STEM role models across various countries in South Asia.

In this workshop participants will:

  • Get introduced to the Thunkable components, and how they can use them.
  • Learn how to design mobile apps user interface by inserting media files (video, audio, image, and animation files).
  • Learn the basics of Object-Oriented, and how to use the logic to accomplish the application tasks.
  • Learn how to store and retrieve data.
  • Install their first applications on their own smartphone (IOS, Android or any platform).
