The Final Session of Girls in ICT Day Thailand 2024 was held physically from 09:30-13:00 on Tuesday, 6 August 2024 in Meeting Room A (MR-A), at the United Nations Conference Centre.
The final event was organized by Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (Office of the NBTC), the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) and ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and it was hosted by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Thailand. A total of 96 participants from government agencies, UN agencies, industry, academia, and civil society organization attended, including 70 girls and boys from Bangkok, Uthai Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Songkhla, and Roi Et provinces in Thailand.
Key Outcomes
- A total of 96 participants, including 70 students, took part in the Final Session of Girls in ICT Day Thailand 2024 in Meeting Room A at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
- All students, teachers, and parents participated in the UNCC Tour led by UNESCAP team before the event started.
- The event was opened by Ms. Atsuko Okuda, Regional Director, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and officiated by Ms. Geraldine Ansart, the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, ad interim.
- During the last session on: Empowering Girls in ICT: Moving Forward for 2025, the participants suggested that:
- ITU and Girls in ICT partners in Thailand should provide resources such as books, tutorials, and stable internet access. They also recommended organizing hackathons to foster creativity and practical skills, as well as promoting technology clubs in schools to provide a supportive environment for girls.
- ITU and Girls in ICT partners in Thailand should leverage AI to provide tailored educational opportunities and emphasize the need for greater diversity among technology designers to ensure that technology effectively meets the needs of all genders and groups.
