The key stakeholders in this event will include students (especially girls and young women from 12 to 24 years old) and educators in Thailand.

The accelerated development of information and communication technologies has created unprecedented opportunities for children and young people to communicate, socialize, share, learn, access information and express their opinions on matters that affect their lives and their communities, while at the same time posing significant risks and challenges to children’s safety.

Child Online Protection (COP) is an initiative which was established by the ITU in November 2008 to protect children worldwide against cyber threats and empower them to fully benefit from the opportunities of the online environment. Protecting children and youth online is a common responsibility and it is up to all relevant stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for all. For that to happen, ITU specifically created four sets of tailored COP guidelines, for Policymakers, Industry, Parents and Educators as well as Children. These guidelines serve as a comprehensive set of recommendations for stakeholders on how to contribute to the development of a safe and empowering online environment for children and young people.

Women and girls are especially vulnerable online. Therefore, this session will promote digital literacy s for girls and young women to ensure a safe and enabling online space. Girls and all children need to be equipped with the knowledge and digital skills to protect themselves and have a safe online experience for a digital future. This online session will provide an opportunity for teachers and students to join the ITU’s training on COP.

The objectives of this session include:

Raising awareness about the necessity of ensuring children's and youth’s safety in the digital space.

Promoting the necessity of obtaining and fostering digital skills and knowledge on how to safely navigate online and become a responsible digital citizen.

Equipping relevant stakeholders, including educators and parents, with guidelines, promotional materials, and educational resources to foster learning and raise awareness about online safety amongst children.

Advocating for our Child Online Protection mascot, Sango, developed by children, as a playful and engaging tool to introduce and communicate online safety.

Agenda

14:00-14:05: Introduction

MC:

Ms. Rury Demsey, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

14:05-14:10: Group photo

14:10-14:30 Introduction to Child Online Protection Guidelines

Presenter:

Ms. Yu Cheng, Project Officer, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

14:30-14:50: Meet Sango!

This session is to provide ITU COP resources and platforms on Child Online Protection mascot, Sango developed by children, as a playful and engaging tool to introduce and communicate online safety.

Presenter:

Ms. Wenhui Liu, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

14:50-15:10 Prevention mechanisms at school and home

This session will discuss the potential risks and threats and provide suggestions on how to cultivate a healthy and empowering online environment at home and in the classroom.

Presenter:

Dr. Danica Radovanovic, Child Online Protection Expert, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

15:10-15:25: Q&A and interactive Session

Moderator:

Ms. Wenhui Liu, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

Presenter:

Dr. Danica Radovanovic, Child Online Protection Expert, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

15:25-15:30: Closing and wrap:

Ms. Yu Cheng, Project Officer, ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

["GET
