International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated worldwide every year on the fourth Thursday of April. Girls in ICT Day provides an opportunity for girls and young women to see and be exposed to the benefits of ICT in enabling their career and aspiration. Since 2011, over 377,000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 11,400 International Girls in ICT Day celebrations in 171 countries.
This year, the global celebration will be co-hosted by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Arab States regions as a hybrid event, featuring a live link between Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Nouakchott, Mauritania, along with distinguished panellists from around the world, live streamed for global audience.
In Bishkek, the event is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of digital development and innovative technologies of the Kyrgyz Republic while, in Nouakchott, the celebration is held in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transition, Innovation, and Modernization of Administration of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
A highlight of the Day will be an interactive intergenerational dialogue, bringing together girls, young women, women leaders, and experts in the ICT sector to engage in dynamic discussions on how to bridge the gender digital divide for a fully inclusive digital transformation. Through this dialogue, we aim to inspire current and future generations of girls and women to lead and thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
It will also be an opportunity for government officials, leaders in ICT sector, and representatives from the ITU-D Network of Women and beyond to come together and demonstrate a united commitment to empowering all girls and young women to ensure an inclusive digital transformation process and build a barrier free digital future.
